President – Sri Lanka College of Oncologists
22nd Annual Academic Sessions – 2025
It gives me immense pleasure and pride to warmly welcome all our distinguished participants—both local and international—to the 22nd Annual Academic Sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Oncologists, to be held on the 23rd and 24th of August 2025 at Hotel Galadari, Colombo.
This year’s sessions are held under the theme “Scaling Heights: Transforming Lives”, which truly reflects our collective journey in advancing cancer care, overcoming challenges, and striving for excellence in patient outcomes through science, collaboration, and compassion.
The Congress promises a rich academic experience, bringing together over 25 leading local experts and 9 eminent international speakers from the UK, USA, Ireland, Australia, India, and Singapore. They will share their insights across a broad spectrum of oncology and related disciplines, reflecting the spirit of progress and innovation that our theme embodies.
The scientific programme is further enriched by three parallel pre-congress sessions on the 22nd of August: a live surgical workshop on colorectal surgery, a radiotherapy contouring workshop, and a session dedicated to early cancer detection in primary care, which will engage a wide audience of specialists, postgraduate trainees, medical officers, and medical students, fostering multidisciplinary learning and dialogue.
We are especially honoured to feature a Keynote Address focused on endometrial cancer—a critical and timely subject in today’s oncological practice. In addition, the programme includes case-based discussions on colorectal cancers and palliative care, symposia on lung cancer, breast cancer, and lymphoma, and plenary sessions covering a wide array of cutting-edge topics: social media in healthcare, genomic testing, melanoma, histiocytic disorders, CNS tumours, SABR in oligometastatic cancers, and surgical management of head and neck cancers.
The congress also features breakfast meetings on research in clinical oncology on both main conference days, offering a platform to encourage and promote local and regional academic contributions. As always, we proudly showcase the work of our colleagues through numerous free paper and poster presentations.
We sincerely thank our industry partners and collaborating organizations for their generous support and commitment, without which this event would not be possible.
We look forward to meeting many of you and sharing the knowledge and insights that will help to improve the quality of patient care.
To our overseas guests, we warmly invite you to enjoy not only the academic sessions but also the natural beauty, tropical charm, and genuine hospitality that Sri Lanka has to offer. From our golden beaches to our warm-hearted people, we hope you will leave with both knowledge and fond memories.
On behalf of the Sri Lanka College of Oncologists, I extend my heartfelt welcome to each and every one of you, as we come together to share, learn, and strengthen our collective efforts in transforming cancer care.
